I read this and found it very interesting and informative. I did read an article one day from someone who looked at this in a different way and I understood what they were saying. It was a government representative in Brazil written after the country had been chastised for the destruction of the rain forest and I was someone who thought they were just bad for what they were doing. He said they were simply trying to get up to speed with us, creating space for farming and homes, improving the country's economy and trying to get away from all the negative uses of the land. He then came to his point... I was sitting there, in judgment, on land that was once rain forest. It's already been cleared and ploughed and paved over. A full valley that exists because we destroyed the forest before anyone cared. Heck, we even drained a lake in the valley for farming and then filled an inlet in Vancouver so a train track could be laid. I'm not saying all of these forests and peatlands should be destroyed but that article did give me a chance to look at the issue from a different perspective.
